Carrie King, Montessori Teacher

I was born in Cincinnati, raised in Houston, and have lived in Austin since 1994. I spent most of my childhood in dance classes, culminating with ten years of classical ballet training at the Houston Ballet Academy. Deciding against a career in dance, I graduated from UT Austin in 1997 with a BA in Anthropology. Thereafter, I spent a year in Taiwan, teaching English to elementary aged children.

Upon return to the US, I found a life-changing opportunity to work at Parkside Community School (where I first met Ms. Talitha in 1999!). During my nine years at Parkside, I received powerful mentorships from seasoned Montessorians, which guided and informed my perspective as a classroom assistant. I worked in both Primary (ages 3-6) and Elementary (ages 6-9) classrooms.

In 2008, I began my life’s most important work. I became a Mom. All three of my children received invaluable years of Montessori education, both at Parkside and at home. My Montessori journey, as a young adult, as a classroom assistant, and eventually as a parent, provided a map of sorts; a blueprint for how to approach the world in a more thoughtful, peaceful, and positive way.

I am honored to step into the HHMS community to continue this important work. I fully believe that within each child resides all the wonder and possibility of the Universe. With proper care and nurturing, each individual’s potential unfolds and blooms, in their own unique way, and at their own pace.

I am here to provide support for your family as your children engage in this process. I am committed to tending to the whole child- mind, body and spirit. I will anticipate the needs of the classroom, and assist Ms. Talitha to the best of my ability so that together we can continue to create a vibrant environment for your children.
